Riding out 2010 with exciting news...

It has been quite a year for our film and we wrap up 2010 with two wonderful news items.

We were awarded the Best Short Film Award at the 21st Ljubljana Film Festival in Slovenia. The jury described the film as... "a simple and touching film that deals with profound issues in a subtle and understated way". Unfortunately due to commitments on a new film project we were not able to attend the ceremony but we certainly expressed our gratitude to the jury and the festival organizers for selecting our film.

Shortly after this news we were contacted by our European distributor, 'Some Like It Short' and told that A Bike Ride had just closed its first broadcast TV sale; the film has been acquired under a two year license by Canal Plus Poland. We will keep you posted on further developments with festival screenings and distribution news throughout 2011.

Thank you for your continued interest in our film - we wish you all very happy holidays and a wonderful new year!

Sight & Sound - London Film Fest Review

Greetings All,

We wanted to share exciting news about an article in the highly regarded BFI Journal 'Sight and Sound' related to this years London Film Festival. Dylan Cave wrote a piece summarizing "the best live shorts at this year’s LFF" and chose A Bike Ride as his favorites. You can read the article online here - A Bike Ride is mentioned about two-thirds down the page.

Bernard attended the festival and related that the screenings were well attended and the film received a very positive response from the audience. In fact when he shared the stage with Colin Firth, the festival organizers asked Bernard to please calm his screaming fans so Mr Firth would not feel left out.

Additional note - the folks at the Nickelodeon Theater in South Carolina were kind enough to contact us and ask if they can screen the film. Naturally we said yes, especially after learning more about the theater. The screening date is November 13th and you can check the theater website for information or to call for details.

Stay tuned as the film continues it's journey around the world and perhaps to your neighborhood.

Festival Regard 2010

Hello from Chicoutimi where I am attending the Festival Regard. The festival has been a fantastic experience and once again the film has received a very positive reception from the public. We had two screenings and both times the crowd gave the film rousing applause.

The quality of the films in this festivals program are exceptional and we are thrilled to be in the company of such amazing films. Along with attending many film screenings I have met a great bunch of Canadian filmmakers and am certain we will stay in touch down the line.

Additionally, I not only attended a local hockey game but also was on the winning team for a hockey game between the attending filmmakers. Hey, I am in Canada and hockey is life here. I will hopefully have a photo or two to post next time I updated the blog. Thanks to the game and some late nights my body is a bit sore - all in the service of art and promoting the film! Based on conversations that I had with a number of festival programmers I am guessing that we will soon receive more invitations to attend. Last week the film was accepted to the Brussels Short Film Festival from April 29th - May 9th.

Now it is time for me to prepare for the long journey back to NY - 6 hrs by car to Montreal and then the 11 hrs by train. It's OK I have a good book and some work to do plus it was worth the effort to participate in such an exceptional festival. Thanks to Eric and the whole team at the festival for their great work.

Festival Updates

Clermont-Ferrand was an absolutely amazing experience. The films seven screenings were full including the two in the largest space which has a capacity of over 1300; for that matter nearly every screening at the festival was full. The festival attendees have a fervor and passion for short films that borders on religious devotion. Each day there are buses of school groups, crowds of locals of all ages, filmmakers, etc lined up and discussing what films they will see that day.

Although we did not win any awards the crowds at our screenings responded enthusiastically to the film and many approached Bernard or I to offer praise. In addition we received write-ups/reviews in two newspapers, including one in Il Manifesto; both write-ups are very positive, the French concluded by saying that "this is a film we will remember for a long time".

Along with the praise from the general public and the positive reviews we received invitations to have the film screen at a number of festivals in Europe, including one in Québec (see details below). We also met with a number of distributors and anticipate accepting an offer to have the film available for TV broadcasting in the near future.

UPCOMING FESTIVALS:
We have confirmed screening dates for Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose. A BIKE RIDE will screen on 3/4/2010 at 9:45 PM and again on 3/6/2010 at 11:00 AM.

The film will be screening at the International Family Film Festival in Holywood on Sunday March 14th @ 12:00pm at the Chaplin Theatre on 5300 Melrose Avenue.

This year IFFF chose films from a record number of submissions representing 23 countries, 24 states and 29 film schools. We are excited about the invitation and hope that those of you in the area can come out and see the film in this unique setting.

We have also been invited to attend the Saguenay International Short Film Festival in Québec. This festival is Québec's most important short film rendezvous and one of the leading short film festivals in North America. The dates for the festival are March 10 2010 - March 14 2010 and the film will be screening on Sunday March 13th at 13:00 & 19:30.
